What is DirectX in Windows?

DirectX are a collection of Application Programming Interfaces which are used as an Hardware Accelerator in Windows Platform. DirectX itself is made up of many components which are specially designed for having to perform certain work. These are specially used to accelerate the Graphics as well as the Sound with in a system for any Multimedia works like gaming or 3D Modeling design like CAD/CAM applications. Actually the processors are able to function in a sequentially order, but in order to accelerate it's working various technique has been applied and from among those is the technique of Hardware Acceleration provided by the use of DirectX components.

Some of the main components of DirectX are listed below.

DirectX Graphics (It comprises of two components.DirectDraw and Direct3D).

Direct Input 

Direct Sound

Direct Music

Direct Input

Direct Network

These components has unique work to be performed by themselves. Like the DirectDraw is used for 2D graphics which are still used by some of the Games. Likewise follows the Direct3D, which is used for 3D gaming console. Same is for DirectInput for interfacing with Keyboard or the Pointing devices. So each of them have a special function to do. So the main purpose of these DirectX component file is to make the hadware accelerate so as to make them work in an efficient manner.

What is DirectX Diagnostic tool in Windows Platform ?

With the help of DirectX diagnostic tool which has been incorporated with the DirectX 9.0 version has a very important task for finding any error in the Hardware of your system or any of the Hardware Drivers. Run this tool by typing dxdiag at RunBox in the Start menu. As soon as you click OK a window will be opened which will look like as shown in the figure given below.

By running this utility you can check for your Dispaly, Sound, Music, Input/Output and Netwrok driver components are working fine. Even you can check these devices with this utility and in case of any fault this utility automatically detects it and gives an error message. So by having to run this utility one can easily find any faulty device installed in your system or any corrupted Drivers. 

One thing this Diagnostic also performs that it finds out the Digitally Signed Drivers installed in your system. And displays a list of driver files which are not digitally signed by the Windows Hardware Quality Lab (WHQL). So it performs the overall check of your System Drives Files and the peripheral devices for any fault in it.
