The Windows XP has been incorporated with the Windows Firewall protection and performs a wide variety of task in blocking unwanted and suspicious programmings which require sharing the component on the network. A proper configured Windows Firewall settings ahs to be done to protect your PC from such unwanted threats on internet. Here are some of the most usefull settings which you must follow in order to have a safe configuration of your Firewall.

Go to Control Panel-Security Center-Windows Firewall. A new windows with all the configuration information appears with you. Chech the checkbox for ON condition to make the Firewall active for your system. It is highly recomended that you must have at least one firewall before connecting your PC to any network. And here Windows Firewall does all this for you. Next you have understand all of it's settings.

 

Go to Exceptions Tab and you will get a new list of configurations.Here you can individually grant permissions for the Firewall for block any programs or do not block it and bypass Firewall checkups. You can add any of the program in the Exception list and also can remove it from the list by clicking on the Add Program Tab and Delete Tab.

 

You can also open any Port with the help of your Windows Firewall by clicking on the Add Port Tab and providing the name of the Protocol and the Port Number used by such Protocols.

Another configuration which you can do in Windows Firewall is that you can enable Firewall for the connections which you like to do so. For this purpose go to Advanced Tab and here you can add as well as remove the Windows Firewall protectiond form the list of connections which you like to do so.

 

Note: Be very much careful in having changing the Windows Firewall configurations.
